The Light of Hope......
Over a decade ago the ideal of offenders and addicts coming together to change their lives and to help others in similar situations do the same was not heard of. Today it is common practice across the state of Texas through the Winner's Circle Peer Support Network. Members always say that if it were not for me and my brother Simon, this would not be. I don't know one way or the other, but what I do know is that we are only messengers who carrry and give a divine message of change that was unheard of because of the way society viewed individuals who were either in prison or just had gotten out. the premise was that if you were an offender, you could never change.
In this state, getting sent to prison is like getting your life taken; it's just like addiction. If you addicted, you only exist. When you get sent to prison and get out, you only exsit because of the sigma that has been attributed to formerly incarcerated individuals. Not then and not now will anyone dare to see that 65% or more of those confined have ot have had a problem with substance abuse and most likely committed their criminal offense trying to support that addiction.
My main message to all current members, families, and futur members is to never quit, but to always stand. If you stand, someone else will see you standing and they will stand, and then another and another, thus the foundationa gets stronger and this message that was given to two brothers over a decade ago will becoame the legacy of those who believe that change is possible and are willing to humble themselves, to be patient whle waiting for the miracle, to see families reunited, and to see communities come together to support people in need of help.
To build a foundation of peer service that will help all people with no racial, ethnicm social, or political boundaries, we must stand together to get this community built, because this construction process is on-going if you understand and believe the message.
Respectfully,
